About UCL Academicals
UCL Academicals HC was formed in 2002 by current and former members of UCL Hockey Club. The club’s aims are threefold:
- To provide a means for former members of UCL Hockey Club to keep in touch.
- To offer hockey playing opportunities to former members and friends of UCL Hockey.
- To support the development of UCL Hockey in any way we can.
The club fields a mixed side on Sundays in the Battersea Winter Mixed League. Has two mens teams playing in Surrey Division 1 of the South League 1st XI and Open sections, and has a ladies team playing in the Surrey Ladies League. The club also takes part in the relevant England Hockey KO competitions.
The club offers weekly training sessions at the conveniently located Bank of England Sports Ground in Barnes.
Social Events
The club has regular organised social events, including a Christmas Cocktail party and a Summer Ball. Additionally the various members will be out somewhere most Saturdays. It’s a bit like a Wednesday, but with fewer courtings!
The club sends mens and ladies teams to an Easter festival – for the last 4 years this has been Canterbury, and we field side in the Battersea International Festival on the Whitsun Bank holiday. If members wish to organise further tours then assistance can be provided.
Future Plans
The club intends to field a men’s third XI in the Surrey Open League from 2005/06. We will also be examining the possibility of fielding a ladies 2nd XI for 05/06.
