University College London Union (UCLU) Hockey Club has developed a reputation for being one of the most successful clubs in South-East England, in particular, London.
UCLU Hockey Club is renowned throughout the University as one of the largest, most progressive and prestigious societies at UCL. The purpose of the Club is to offer opportunities to play high-level hockey as well provide a chance for beginners to give it a go. The club prides itself on achieving the essential balance between sporting excellence and social involvement with one of the highest number of teams of any UCL Sports club.
We run many well-supported annual activities such as the Christmas Ball, befitting with our strong ties with the UCL Academicals club. We welcome all members and freshers to join us for SportsNite on Wednesday nights in the Union. These nights are often themed and highlights include Mikey G, King's Run and the annual Pub Crawl. Come along to find out what it's all about!
The club also takes part in the Canterbury Hockey Festival each year over Easter weekend and at the end of summer term we go on a week-long tour abroad. Both are not to be missed!
This year the Men's 1st XI won the the BUCS Cup, finished runners up in the BUCS South East 2A league, were crowned ULU Premier Champions and won the ULU Cup, officially making them the top team in the greater London area. The Men's 2nd XI and 3rd XI re-enforced our strength in depth by performing strongly in their respective leagues.
The Women's club enjoyed a similarly successful season last year. Our newly promoted Women's 1st XI adapted well to the topflight standard of the premier 1A South-Eastern BUCS league and were crowned ULU Cup champions. The 2nd XI finished their season as BUCS 4B runners up after an incredibly strong season, with wins recorded against all league teams. The 3rd XI arguably had the most successful season last year, gaining a very well deserved promotion from BUCS 5B to join the 2nd XI this season in SE 4B.
